Heat Recovery VRV
As one of the largest and busiest teaching hospitals in the country, Kings College NHS Foundation Trust has exacting standards for the design and installation of new works.
When the requirement arose for a new air conditioning and ventilation system to serve two floors of the Estates Department the installation works were awarded to Artic Building Services after a rigorous competitive tender process.
The works comprised a Heat Recovery VRV and complimentary supply and extract ventilation system to serve the ground floor workshops and first floor offices
To meet the design specification, air conditioning equipment was selected from the Daikin range and consisted of two external heat recovery units and forty two fan coil units. The ventilation system comprised a NuAire external heat recovery air handling unit with ducted supply and extract air to each floor.
The design also required an external galvanised steel plant platform with secondary plant supports and anti-vibration mounts.
Each of the VRV systems are independently controlled using one of the manufacturer’s group controllers whilst the air handling unit has a similar controller which also provides the optimised start and stop for the complete installation.
Project planning and programming was an essential element in the close liaison with the Estates Management Team and the Main Contractor, a partnership that has continued to develop both within and outside the hospital.
“Artic impressed with their professional attitude and approach to this project. They showed an admirable consistency and produced a quality finish of the highest standard.”
