PROJECT: Mizuho Corporate Bank

Project Outline:

Mizuho Corporate Bank Limited is a busy bank located in the city of London. When the buildings main Cooling Towers and Back up Generator cooling system pumps were nearing the end of their working life and lacking in efficiency the contract for their replacement, as part of the banks forward maintenance plan, was awarded to Artic Building Services.

Works began on site 8 weeks after the contract award.

These works consisted of the removal and replacement of:

3 No. Roof mounted main cooling system towers,

3 No. Tenant back up generator cooling system pumps,

2 No. Landlord back up generator cooling system pumps,

1 No. Tenant back up generator cooling system pressurisation unit,

1 No. Landlord back up generator cooling system pressurisation unit,

1 No. Tenant back up generator cooling tower recirculation pump,

1 No. Landlord back up generator cooling tower recirculation pump,

Associated system pipe works and bellows were also modified and reconnected to suit the new installation.

Artic worked closely with the client throughout the works to ensure that the main office cooling system, tenants back up generator system and landlords generator system were kept in service at all times with minimal impact on the day to day working of the bank.

This meant that the majority of the works were carried out out-of-hours and at weekends.

The main cooling system roof mounted cooling towers were stripped out, removed and replaced by crane one at a time over a period of 3 separate weekends. Each redundant tower was chlorinated and neutralised before removal from site to ensure against any possible risk of legionnaire’s disease, this process was repeated prior to the new towers being brought into service.

The Cooling Tower building management system controls needed to be upgraded in order to facilitate the controlled fans on each new Cooling Tower. It was essential to ensure that each tower and pump was tested and validated to ensure operation before bringing the new plant into service and the subsequent plant out of service in order to maintain system operations.

Artic Building Services completed all works within three months and within budget.
