From Apprentice to Senior Project Manager:

Developing our own talent has been a strong part of the culture at Artic Building Services since its founding in 1998. With its established Apprenticeship scheme and recruitment at local schools and colleges through STEM events, Artic has been building the future of facilities management from within. With Artic’s apprenticeship scheme, opportunities to advance doesn’t stop at engineering, with many of its previous apprentices now a part of its senior and management teams. One of these success stories include Senior Project Manager, Lee Rumble, who started as an apprentice.

Where Lee’s Apprenticeship Journey Began:

Lee Rumble joined Artic Building Services in 2008. He started his journey as an Air Conditioning Apprentice within the Service & Maintenance Department. Lee was enrolled onto a City & Guild Level 2 Qualification in Small Commercial Refrigeration & Air Conditioning at North West Kent College which he successfully completed in 2010. Seeing the talent and skills which Lee quickly possessed, it was clear to Artic that he was an engineer worth investing in and continued to look for further opportunities to build his skills and knowledge.

Artic provided Lee with the opportunity to continue his professional development by providing him with the option to undertake a Level 3 NVQ in Complex Commercial & Industrial Refrigeration & Air Conditioning which he diligently achieved in 2013. Alongside his formal courses, Lee seized further opportunities to enhance his experience and knowledge by completing numerous external and manufacturer-led courses including:

  • First Aid
  • Daikin and Mitsubishi training
  • PASMA
  • IPAF
  • Computer-based learning modules

As a dedicated Apprentice who was clearly invested in becoming a skilled engineer, Artic valued Lee’s technical expertise and made the decision to progress him from his apprenticeship role into a Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Installation Engineer, moving from the Service and Maintenance department to the Projects Department.

From Site to Office:

Lee Rumble excelled as an engineer but wanted to make the move to an office-based position, to support his career ambitions Artic gave Lee the opportunity to transition into the role of Site Supervisor. Showcasing his expertise in this role, it wasn’t long before Lee advanced, taking on new challenges as a Junior Project Manager.  As a Junior Manager, Lee also proactively sought to further his academic qualifications and enrolled on a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Building Services Engineering at the University of Kent. He successfully completed the course in 2018. It was this same year that Lee then advanced from Junior Project Manager to Project Manager.

Since his move to Project Management, Lee has continued to excel, leveraging his years of experience at Artic to deliver a vast number of mechanical projects throughout our focus sectors of healthcare, commercial and university sites, successfully.

As a Project Manager, Lee has continuously delivered projects that go above and beyond the client’s expectation and with his years of extensive knowledge, Lee has been able to progress into the role of Senior Project Manager where he now oversees complex projects, manages teams and ensures delivery to the highest technical and safety standards. He continues to complete a range of courses to support his first-hand experience and ensure his technical knowledge advances with the future and changing needs of our partners

Through determination, dedication and ambition to advance in his career, with the support of Artic, Lee Rumble has been able to move from an apprenticeship all the way to senior project management.

“I began my career with Artic Building Services in 2008 when they gave me the opportunity to join as an air conditioning apprentice. From the very beginning, the company invested in my development, providing ongoing training, support, and opportunities to grow. Over the years, that continued commitment to my progression has enabled me to develop my skills, take on increasing responsibility, and advance into my current role as Senior Projects Manager.

I am incredibly grateful for the investment Artic has made in my career. I believe there are very few companies that would offer the level of training, trust, and long-term development opportunities that Artic has consistently provided.” –  Lee Rumble

It works alongside the RAF Sidecar team who are there to demonstrate how engineering can take anyone further not just in their careers, but also in life.

Building Successful Careers in Facilities Management:
