Health, safety and the environment are areas that Artic Building Services takes very seriously. So it came as no surprise to Brian Cosens, Services Director, that his department had won a prestigious award from Wates Construction Ltd. The Supply Chain Award was for Artic’s contribution to Health Safety and the Environment.
Brian said “Our key objective has always been zero preventable accidents in addition to zero entries in the Reporting of Injuries Diseases and Dangerous Occurrence Regulations (RIDDOR) during our working relationship with Wates, this we have successfully achieved”.
Artic Building Services have gained ISO 14001, Environmental Management Standard, and ISO 18001, Occupational Health and Safety Management Standard from the British Assessment Bureau. Artic Building Services are committed to continuous improvements in Health and Safety performance. We have robust systems in operation to make the work place as safe as possible, not only for our employees but also any other person who might be in the vicinity. The employment of a computer based Health and Safety training module has made all members of staff more safety conscious. As a company we develop RAMS that are site specific; we do not employ generic “one size fits all” system for RAMS. We ensure that all Artic employees and subcontractors carry out a “one minute risk assessment” prior to the commencement of any tasks, these, and other safety issues including environmental awareness are discussed in our weekly toolbox talks. Regular site Health and Safety audits are carried out by our project managers. Artic Building Services Ltd is an environmentally friendly company; we are aware of our carbon foot print and actively seek methods to reduce it such as the use of pooled transport, clear logistical planning for the movement of materials and manpower. As a licenced waste carrier we ensure that all hazardous materials are disposed of in a safe and compliant manner.
